The Legendary Pokémon Mewtwo was intended for use as a tool of destruction. But as Mewtwo becomes aware of its own dubious origin, it begins to resent its human creators and seeks revenge…

A remake of the first film, Mewtwo Strikes Back, Evolution is coming to Netflix as an exclusive next month on ‘Pokemon Day’. This marks the 22nd film in the Pokemon series in addition to being the third film in the ‘alternate timeline series’, which will probably need some further explaining.

The first nineteen animated films are based on the anime television series with Ash Ketchum and his friends, and the other four are set in an alternate continuity to the anime. A reboot to the film franchise began with the release of the 20th movie, Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, in Japan on 15 July 2017. It was followed by a continuation, Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us, which was released in Japan on 13 July 2018.

If you can’t get enough of the Pokemon films, then you are in luck because a 23rd film, Pocket Monsters the Movie: Coco, is coming to theaters this year in Japan on July 10th. Unlike Evolution here, it returns to the 2D art style rather than the 3D one.
