“I don’t want to build a game. I want to build a universe.”

[dropcap size=small]G[/dropcap]ame designer Chris Roberts, the masterful genius behind Wing Commander and Freelancer comes his latest game, STAR CITIZEN. This PC space game is a 100% crowd funded project, and was able to reach new heights the other day as it surpassed $113 million in total funding, while having reached $100 million this past December, and they only seem to continue to gain traction and grow for this game. According to their official website, more than 1.3 million people have signed up to track the progress of the game on their Kickstarter page.

This milestone makes Star Citizen the most successful crowdfunded project ever, on a dollar basis. A representative for the game company, Cloud Imperium Games Corporation, had this to say about it:

In our four studios around the world and our partner studios in Canada and elsewhere, people work tirelessly to fulfill the promise of this unprecedented project. Whether they’re artists, programmers, designers, engineers, writers, directors, producers, and more, they’re all gamers who want to share this experience with everyone reading these each and every month.

As the teams in each studio continue to expand, you’ll see our pace of production continue to pick up as it already has since late 2015. The knowledge and experience we gain with each new ship built, each new character brought to life, each new landing zone realized, and each new game system coming online will inform the next one after that, meaning that not only will the quantity of our output increase, so will the quality continue to improve“.

Be sure to check out their Kickstarter page and support them for this titan of a game!
