[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]t last week’s Game Awards 2014, Bandai Namco announced that its Godzilla game that is currently in development for PS4 and PS3 will be coming to the West next summer. The title was initially planned for a release in Japan only, but will now reach the rest of the world roughly six months later.

The game allows users to play as the fearsome Godzilla with the primary goal of destroying cities and collecting “G-Energy,” which causes Godzilla to grow and expand his destructive skills. The game sounds similar to the Rampage video game series, but instead of using a Godzilla-knockoff named Lizzie, the game will actually feature one of the most infamous movie creatures of all-time, the King of the Monsters himself. Bandai Namco gave further game details in a statement:

“The game will also allow players to utilize a dynamic Movie-Style Camera Angle System, delivering the most epic camera angles from which to destroy both a multitude of locations as well as classic enemies such as Mothra, King Ghidorah, and Mechagodzilla.”

This year’s Godzilla film directed by Gareth Edwards has no doubt re-ignited the public’s interest in the character after the critical disaster that was Roland Emmerich’s 1998 version starring Matthew Broderick. With a planned trilogy underway, we could be seeing Godzilla films and video game titles for years to come.

Godzilla is set for release in Japan on December 18 and will come to the West next summer on PS4 and PS3.
