Activision released screenshots for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, giving us a look at what the next entry in skateboarder Tony Hawk’s action sports franchise as to offer.

[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t was thirteen years ago, back in 2002, when Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 was released. Since then there have been several games based off the iconic series. The first game, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, was a smashing success and Activision released a number of follow-up games. However, when Tony Hawk Shred was released on October 26, 2010 it was met with poor reviews from critics and fans alike. Now, Activision and Tony Hawk plan to change all of that with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 will feature several professional skaters who will skate alongside Tony Hawk. Activision confirmed these pro skaters to be Nyjah Huston, Riley Hawk, Aaron “Jaws” Homoki, Ishod Wair, Leticia Bufoni, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Andrew Reynolds and Lizzie Armanto. Some of these pro skaters can be found in the slideshow above.

The next installment in the Pro Skater series plans to keep the franchise’s combo-driven gameplay while offering new unique features. On top of new parks being introduced, familiar old skate parks like Warehouse have been reworked as well. Players will also be able to create their own skate parks and share it online with the rest of the community when they are finished. The game will also implement new levels and “fine-tuned controls” while also introducing power-ups. There will even be projectiles that could “change up the core skating experience.”. In addition to these new features, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5 will introduce a new online multiplayer mode. Players will have the ability to enter and leave online sessions with friends and random people whenever they choose. While online, you can take on missions, skate head to head with friends and unlock new content. Activision also claims that you can “level up”, suggesting that the game has some sort of leveling or ranking system in place.

“Skateboarding has always been about the freedom of ripping with your friends, and creating a game that captures that feeling has been a vision of mine since the Pro Skater series began over 15 years ago,” Tony Hawk said in a statement. “I’m beyond excited to see that dream finally come true with Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5, which takes the old-school attitude of the original games online in a big way.”

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 is currently in development at Robomodo and Disruptive Games. It will be released on Xbox One and Playstation 4 first some time this year before coming to Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 afterwards.
