[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]e’ve all seen the internet reactions to Leonardo DiCaprio’s tragic annual snuffing at the Oscars, and we have all giggled at the memes, gifs, and tumblr posts (you are lying if you say you’ve never chuckled at one). But is this the year that DiCaprio will finally have his moment, and his long-awaited Oscar?
Experts in media have given DiCaprio a staggering 7 to 2 odds. His from his recent role in The Revenant, in which DiCaprio plays a revenge-driven fur trader living in the Dakota Territory in 1823.
Eddie Redmayne is a close runner-up with 4 to 1 odds. Redmayne is known for his performances as Marius in Les Miserables, Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, and his most recent role as Einar Wegener / Lili Elbe in The Danish Girl.
Speaking of Oscar-less actors, Johnny Depp is third in the runnings for the Oscar this year with 6 to 1 odds. Even though Depp does not have an Oscar, he has only been nominated three times, as opposed to DiCaprio’s four. Depp is known for his iconic performance as Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean series, Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd, and John Dillinger in Public Enemies.
Shockingly, DiCaprio isn’t the only big name to never own an Oscar. Other actors include Julianne Moore, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, Liam Neeson (I would just give him what he wants, no questions asked) and Samuel L. Jackson. They have all been nominated, but just like DiCaprio, they have yet to have that coveted award.
