As Johnny Depp steps aside, Mads Mikkelsen steps into the spotlight in a role that fits the actor perfectly.

Earlier this month, we reported that Johnny Depp had officially departed from the Fantastic Beasts franchise amidst domestic abuse allegations, where the actor had already played Grindelwald previously in two out of five total planned Fantastic Beasts films. Now it seems Warner Bros is ready to move forward with Depp’s replacement, Mads Mikkelsen who is taking on the role of Gellert Grindelwald for the remaining three films in the ongoing movie series.

Warner Bros wasted very little time to push out their official announcement on Mikkelsen joining the cast, a choice that in my humble opinion is much more befitting for the character. Depp wasn’t a bad choice, but Mikkelsen just feels right somehow.

Fantastic Beasts 3 (working title) is currently in production at the present time near London at Studios Leavesden. Mikkelsen joins Eddie Redmayne, Dan Fogler, Jude Law, Ezra Miller, and more in this next adventure into the wizarding world.
