Massive Entertainment will begin to permanently ban players for cheating in The Division.
Playing Tom Clancy’s The Division on PC has proven to be quite frustrating to players as cheaters run rampant. As a solution, Massive Entertainment will now ban players confirmed to be cheating on their second offense.
Starting April 12th players will be able to report others for supposed cheating. Massive Entertainment will then attempt to verify the accusation and if the accused is indeed cheating they will be given a three-day ban. If the same player is caught cheating a second time, the ban placed on them will be permanent.
It is important that a distinction be made between exploitation and cheating. Players that take advantage of in-game systems such as the loot caves needn’t worry about being flagged for cheating. Cheating constitutes any form of hack used to create an imbalance and an unfair advantage between players. Things like invincibility and having extremely powerful weapons are considered cheating and a player will be banned for them.
Cheating isn’t cool. It’s unfair to players who paid sixty dollars for a game only to have their experienced be ruined by those who feel the need to have people think they’re good. The competitive aspect of a game is tainted when a playing field becomes un-leveled. Hopefully this system will help weed out those who take the fun out of online gaming.
