That’s Mr. America to you, punk!
Akira is perhaps the most influential manga and anime of all-time…
And for whatever reason, a live-action adaptation has been struggling to get made. Big time.
Now by no means are we advocating that this film should happen, but the Hollywood live-action version of Akira has had a notably troubled development since 2002. Warner Bros. has started and stopped production of the movie four times for various reasons, and right now, the film’s in limbo.
At one point, Irish director Ruairí Robinson was attached to this illusive project, and has since shared concept art of his vision of the film, including Captain America himself, Chris Evans, as Kaneda, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tetsuo.
Also shared (via Robinson’s website) is additional artwork showcasing Kaneda’s bike, iconic scenes, and Neo-Tokyo, which looks just like manga source.
Alright, maybe we won’t mind if this film gets made after all…
Then again, JGL’s Tetsuo apparently would be renamed “Travis.”
Sigh. Go watch Akira. Right now.
