Troy Duffy and IM Global TV are currently working on a prequel television series to The Boondock Saints.

[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]lthough The Boondock Saints box office reports were nothing special, the movie developed a large following of fans as a DVD best seller since its release in 1999. It’s been a little over 15 years since the film’s original release but there’s been talks of a possible prequel to the film.

IM Global TV has been working with Troy Duffy, writer of the original film, to produce a possible prequel TV series. Duffy produced a sequel in 2009, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, but the reviews were for the most part negative.

Since becoming a cult film favorite, Duffy says that he has been more interested in telling the origin of the Catholic Irish twins we’ve all come to know and love. Duffy believes that television, instead of a movie, would suit the prequel better to define the characters, as well as attract a whole new audience.

Along with Duffy, original actors, Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flannery, have been said to be in cahoots with Duffy as co-executive producers to the possible prequel series. The first episode is said to have already been written by Duffy, as well as a thought-out plan for a number of episodes. There is no set release date or direct confirmation of the show being aired, so we’ll just have to wait and see what Duffy and IM Global come up with.
