Spielberg looks to Universal as DreamWorks and Disney decide not to renew their partnership.

[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]teven Spielberg’s DreamWorks will part ways with Disney when their current distribution deal expires in August 2016, reports Variety. Disney has been releasing DreamWorks films since 2009, but has since bought Marvel and Lucasfilm in an apparent shift towards producing branded, franchise movies.

It is thought that Spielberg will look to Universal as DreamWorks’ next distributing partner. A deal with Universal would allow Spielberg more involvement in future Jurassic World projects, and there are rumours of plans to reboot classic Universal franchises Jaws and Back to the Future, should the director return to the studio.

Disney will release two DreamWorks pictures before the deal expires: Tom Hanks thriller Bridge of Spies and The BFG, both directed by Spielberg.

The BFG hits theatres July 1st, 2016.
