Rian Johnson’s long-awaited movie gets its title! Check out the details here!

[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]ince The Force Awakens was released, we knew that the sequel would build on the ending with Rey (Daisy Ridley) finally finds Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and shows him his old lightsaber. We had to wait two years for Episode VIII to come out, but not before we get the title released from Star Wars today! Check it out below!

It goes with the theme of just saying the title of the movie that J.J. Abrams went with instead of adding the specific episode in the title. StarWars.com released this statement about the title reveal for the movie:

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

Director Rian Johnson talked to USA Today about how The Last Jedi will help reveal new characters in more than just background story.

“I wanted to know more about each of them, and that doesn’t just mean information or backstory. Figure out what’s the most difficult thing each of them could be challenged with now – let’s throw that at them and dig into what really makes them tick by seeing how they handle that.”

The new movie will focus mainly on Rey’s time with Luke. Johnson said that the first meeting for Rey has her feeling “both not knowing what’s going to happen and also having a lot of expectations in her head about how this is going to go. It very much feels like what we all go through in adolescence, the dawning of this new chapter of our lives.”

The mystery of Luke Skywalker is the main question in The Last Jedi and Johnson wants to make it feel real.

“What’s going on with Luke Skywalker?” is the main question in the new movie, according to Johnson. “I’m approaching it with a take that I hope feels honest and real and is going to be interesting to folks and make sense.”

Some important questions leading up to the movie will be why Luke chose Anch-To as the first Jedi Temple and the story of how Luke’s padawans were killed by the Knights of Ren. It will be an exciting end to the 2017 year when The Last Jedi is released to theaters!
