Obi-Wan Season 2 Unfortunately in Development, According to Insiders

Because Disney apparently thinks we want more of something everybody hated.

According to entertainment scooper Daniel Richtman, aka @DanielRPK, Disney+ is currently developing a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi, the show that made even the most diehard Star Wars fans go, “Eh, I guess Ewan looked cool holding the lightsaber again.” Yes, the limited series that should’ve stayed limited is somehow getting more episodes, because nothing screams “We totally had a plan!” like backpedaling your finale with a second swing.

Now to be fair, Ewan McGregor was the best part of Season 1—mostly because he seemed to remember he was in Star Wars, unlike the scriptwriters, who seemed to think they were ghostwriting a sci-fi version of The Young and the Restless. But even McGregor’s charm couldn’t elevate a series plagued with flat direction, laughable VFX, and a storyline so padded it could’ve been an orthopedic mattress.

We can’t wait to see if Obi-Wan advances his career at the meatworks packing company in season 2. | Disney+

This announcement is just another symptom of a terminal illness over at Disney+—content bloat. Somewhere along the line, the Mouse House confused “expanding the universe” with “throwing everything at the wall and greenlighting whatever doesn’t slide off.” The Acolyte has dialogue that sounds like it was cobbled together from Tumblr fan posts, The Book of Boba Fett was just… awful,  and even Mandolorian fell off somewhere along the line. Somehow, despite reportedly spending hundreds of millions of dollars on these shows, they manage to look like they were filmed in the breakroom of a Spirit Halloween store.

It’s as if Disney+ is speedrunning the Netflix model: more shows, less substance, and absolutely no concern for quality control. It’s hard to tell what they’re spending the money on—because it sure as hell isn’t the writing, sets, or basic character logic. It’s almost impressive in the way a very expensive train wreck is impressive.

So sure, bring on Obi-Wan Kenobi: Season 2. Maybe this time he’ll fight Darth Vader again, or maybe he’ll just hang out in the desert and whisper, “The Force is strong with you, but not strong enough to save me from this writing room.”
