Ninja Scroll is coming to North American theaters for the first time in 4K

HIDIVE and Iconic Events Releasing have announced that tickets are on sale now for a three-day limited theatrical release of Yoshiaki Kawajiri’s 1993 masterpiece, Ninja Scroll, hitting approximately 600 theaters across the United States and Canada on October 4th, 5th, and 7th in both English sub and dub formats.

This is the first and potentially only opportunity for North American audiences to see the newly remastered 4K version of Ninja Scroll in a theater, which is the kind of sentence that should send any self-respecting anime fan directly to a ticketing website without finishing this paragraph.

The 4K restoration was supervised by director Kawajiri himself and produced by AMC Global Media’s Sentai, and the process behind it is the kind of meticulous work that the film genuinely deserves. The restoration began with a 4K scan of the original 35mm negative at 3840 by 2160 pixels, followed by a frame-by-frame damage repair pass, and finished with full color correction to produce an archival-quality digital master that preserves the film exactly as it was intended to look while presenting it at a resolution the original theatrical run could never have achieved.

Advance tickets and participating theater locations are available now through Iconic Events Releasing’s official website, and with less than four weeks until opening night, waiting around is not a strategy that is going to work out well for anyone.
