Saban’s Power Rangers has its cast, its villain, and now its morphinomenol logo.
When first announced that Power Rangers was getting a reboot back to its Mighty Morphin roots, in the form of a film franchise no less, many of us were ecstatic. It has been far too long since Zack, Kimberly, Billy, Trini, and Jason were together on the same screen, though this time with a new set of rather unfamiliar faces and an unfamiliar design. But now, we have the official logo of Saban’s Power Rangers.
The cast includes comedic actor Elizabeth Banks, in perhaps one of her most unusual roles to date, as villain Rita Repulsa. Don’t get us wrong, the casting choice is fantastic, and perhaps one that most people would not have even considered, yet somehow it just feels right. The Power Rangers themselves (seen below), consist of an assortment of mostly unknown faces, but not for long. If Saban’s Power Rangers reboot film franchise is anything like the dark and gritty POWER/RANGERS short film by producer Adi Shankar (Dredd, Lone Survivor, and The Grey), we are in for one heck of a cinematic ride.
Not much is known about the plot at this time, but it’s been revealed that the story will be an orgin, starting off with Zordon as the first Red Ranger, locking up Repulsa before diving into the recruitment of the cast above in their roles as the saviors of Angel Grove. Beyond that, and the logo of course, there really isn’t much to tell. Regardless, we couldn’t be more anxious to see whether or not this film can outdo its two cinematic predecessors.
Power Rangers hits theaters on March 24, 2017 and stars Dacre Montgomery, Becky Gomez, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, and Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa. The film is directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac).
