Production on Eli Roth’s live-action Borderlands film continues with the news that comedian and actor Kevin hart landing the role of Roland. The movie, being produced under Lionsgate, is set to begin filming in Budapest soon and starring opposite of Kevin Hart is renowned actress Cate Lanchett as Lilith.
There were rumors earlier that Kevin Hart may star in the film but it wasn’t until The Hollywood Reporter solidified these rumors that we felt safe to confirm the news.
For those of you who haven’t played Borderlands or have forgotten the story, Roland is a skilled soldier from Promethea who’s been trained by the Atlas corporation. Eli Roth had this to say about the casting announcement:
“I’m thrilled to be working with Kevin [Hart]. Borderlands is a different kind of role for him, and we are excited to thrill audiences with a side of Kevin they’ve never seen before. He’s going to be an amazing Roland.”
“Kevin has been behind some of the world’s biggest blockbusters, and our source material is inspired by one of the world’s best-selling video games,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture president Nathan Kahane. “We love the way our filmmaking team has adapted this story and we couldn’t be in better creative hands.”
There is no definitive release date for Borderlands at this time.
