Potter’s future destiny is on the stage and not the big screen.

[dropcap size=small]L[/dropcap]ast month J.K. Rowling revealed there would an 8th instalment in the Harry Potter series, which will directly follow on from Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (via Pottermore). It was like Christmas had come around all over again for Potter fans everywhere.

We learnt that the story is titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and would come in the form of a stage play to be performed in London’s West End this coming summer; with a digital and physical release of the play in book form to follow shortly after the play’s debut.

Naturally, it didn’t take long for fans to begin to speculate if this play would eventually find its way to the big screen, and join the rest of the Harry Potter series in the cinematic world.

Well, Rowling cleared that rumour up this week, after a fan expressed their excitement about the potential of The Cursed Child being a movie too:

Rowling certainly made it clear that The Cursed Child is destined to be a play and nothing more.

But have no fear, Rowling was quick to offer up some consolation for those who miss the wizarding world on the big screen.

We’ll be getting a new trilogy of films thanks to her latest project, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themwhich follows the adventures of Magizoologist and author, Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne). The film is set in New York, and will be 70 years Prior to Harry’s day in the Potter timeline.

The Cursed Child is set to come in two parts, and will revisit Harry and co. 19 years after the events of Deathly Hallows. The play follows the trials of Harry’s son, Albus Severus Potter, as he grapples with being related to one of the most famous wizards around, among other things.

Even though we won’t be seeing the 8th story in cinemas, at least we’re actually getting one in the first place; no matter what form it comes in.

It’s still pretty darn exciting!

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child is set to debut in London’s West End sometime this summer.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set for release 18 November, 2016.
