[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]resh on the heels of his newest (and possibly last) project- Strange Magic which hits theaters January 23- George Lucas recently opened up to USA Today about Star Wars and the future he had planned for the franchise.

According to Lucas, LucasFilm had already been developing Episode VII. Lucas was planning on launching the movie in May 2015 and then sell his company. However, it seems as though Lucas wasn’t willing to provide his time to the new trilogy, as he knew it would require at least a “10 year commitment.”

Lucas obviously chose to go in a different direction and eventually sold the company he founded to Disney back in 2012, for a whopping $4.08 billion. The acquisition was one of the biggest, and most shocking, announcements in cinema history, but Lucas seems to be at ease with his decision and is happy to pass the torch to new Director J.J. Abrams.

The only disappointment Lucas has is that he never got to really enjoy his films saying, “I never got to be blown out of my seat when the ship came over the screen. The next one, I’ll be able to enjoy it like anybody else.”

And just in case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens teaser trailer. The movie hits theaters December 18, 2015.
