PG-13? Have The Expendables Gone Soft?

New team. New attitude. New mission. New rating.

With the first two films in the Expendables franchise hitting theaters with an R rating, some fans might be shocked to hear that the third installment has been rated PG-13.

If I were to guess, I’d say that this is merely an effort to reach a larger audience and in turn make more money. However, I imagine this could potentially end up hurting the film as well, considering the only reason that most people go to see an Expendables film is for the over-the-top violence and gore.

The MPAA has given the film it’s PG-13 rating for violence including intense sustained gun battles and fight scenes, and for language. Sounds like the same stuff we would come to expect from one of these movies, just maybe with a little less blood and f-bombs.

No matter what the rating, I’m sure that The Expendables 3 will have no problem making a few hundred million dollars in the box office.

The Expendables 3 stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Dolph Lundgren, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronda Rousey, Sarai Givaty, Kellan Lutz, Terry Crews, Kelsey Grammer, Natalie Burn, Randy Couture, Robert Davi, Glen Powell, and Victor Ortiz. Written by Sylvester Stallone, Creighton Rothenberger, and Katrin Benedikt. Directed by Patrick Hughes. In theaters August 15.
