Harry Potter’s 8th Story Coming as Published ‘Cursed Child’ Play Script

We weren’t ready to say goodbye to Harry, and now we don’t have to!

[dropcap size=small]J[/dropcap].K. Rowling is positively spoiling Potterheads this year. Not only are we going to get to dive back into the wizarding world with the movie spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but we’re actually getting an 8th continuing story that will see our favourite trio Harry, Ron and Hermione return once more as well!

Yes. I kid you not.

Que the excited screaming and arm flailing.

Rather interestingly, it’ll come in the form of a stage play titled Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The play is based on an original story by Rowling, Jack Throne and John Tiffany, and is set to be performed at the West End in London this summer.

The 8th story of Potter and co. is officially considered as canon in the Harry Potter series, and will be set nineteen years after Deathly Hallows: Part 2’s epilogue, where we saw our heroes all grown up with their children at the station

I can see it now. They saw off their kids to Hogwarts just as they themselves did all those years ago. Oh, just remembering it brings a tear to my eye. Someone pass me a tissue.

The story will be divided up into two parts due to, as Pottermore puts it, ‘the epic nature of the story’ – what a tease that is!

We know we’ll see Harry’s son, who’s named after Snape (the feels are still fresh), and our favourite headmaster, Dumbledore. Albus Severus Potter is sure to struggle with being the son of one of the most famous wizards around.

We’ll also get to see the gang post-Deathly Hallows, and witness what they’re up to now that he-who-shall-not-be-named is officially out of the picture. It’s all – as Ron would say – wicked.

Print and digital editions of the story are due to be published after the world premiere of the play, so if you’re not lucky enough to catch it on stage, you’ll still get to experience the magic!

And if that wasn’t enough, Pottermore also revealed that to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the release of the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Harry’s first adventure will be getting special re-printed editions which represent the four Hogwarts houses next year.

It’s a good day for Potter fans everywhere!

The play’s debut is set for 30 July, 2016.
