“What makes Albus Dumbledore so fond of you, Mr. Scamander?”
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]ith the return of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world in the spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, everyone’s hoping we’ll get to see or hear of some familiar faces from the Harry Potter ‘verse. Since the film is set in 1926 in New York, it does put some limitations on seeing many of the much-loved characters, but Albus Dumbledore could logically pop by somehow.
Dan Fogler – who’s set to star in Fantastic Beasts as Jacob Kowalski – recently spoke to MTV, where he teased us by saying that we’ll be seeing and hearing of some old favourites; giving us even more reason to believe Dumbledore will be making an appearance in the new franchise:
As the stories go along, you will hear mention of your favorite characters. And you may meet their young counterparts along the way
What a tease. That’s got to be Dumbledore, doesn’t it? ‘Young counterparts’ just screams of a younger Albus. The plural use of characters suggests we may see other familiar faces in the planned trilogy as well. Fogler certainly knows how to deliver a tasty hint that still leaves us guessing.
We’d already heard that Michael Gambon was completely on board with the idea of bringing our favourite wizard headmaster into the Fantastic Beasts fold, whether that be in flashback form, or as a relative of Albus. Dumbledore would be 45 years old when we meet protagonist Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) in the new movie – having been born in 1881 – and fans have been rooting for an Albus cameo.
The recent teaser trailer for Fantastic Beasts also name-dropped Dumbledore, adding fuel to our burning fire of hope that we’ll be seeing a younger Albus at some stage. Of course, we may only hear about him in the first film, but with two planned sequels to follow, he may be more of a physical inclusion later on.
We would love Dumbledore to play a role in the events of the new franchise, and it would be great to get to know Albus at a younger age. We look forward to finding out who else they might make reference to, or who might also appear upon the films release.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to hit theatres 18 November, 2016.
