[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t will be a while before the Final Fantasy VII remake will be released, but the game will have some “dramatic changes” to the combat system, according to director Tetsuya Nomura. Nomura reassured fans that the game would be built based on the original game in an interview with Official Playstation Magazine (via Games Radar).
“And of course, that being said, we want to clarify: We’re not going to be changing it into a shooter or something like that,” Nomura said. “We are going to be bringing dramatic changes, but we want to make sure it’s still recognizable.”
In June, Nomura said the company doesn’t “want to interfere with what makes the original title so iconic.” But, Nomura does want the game to have a “fresh feel” so it doesn’t feel like the company is remaking the game just to remake it and have it “become a one-to-one remake, or just the original Final Fantasy VII with better graphics.”
There are no true specifics to the game yet. The only thing that we should assume is that the main plot and certain points of the story will remain the same. “There are certain plot points we don’t want to interfere with or disturb, nor will we want to change elements that fans have very big attachments to,” he said last month.
In an interview with OPM, Nomura suggested that the Advent Children movie, that was released in 2005, will offer some inspiration on the remake, specifically as a visual reference. The movie won’t have a huge impact because the difference between technology 10 years ago and today is completely different, so some of the things used to make the game in today’s world will be different from what was used to make the movie.Â
Final Fantasy VII was announced at E3 in June, but a release date has yet to be announced. Check out the announcement of the game at E3 in the video above!
