After much speculation, we now know its finally happening. Confirmed during the 2019 D23 Expo event, Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi for an exclusive series on the Disney Plus streaming service.
The reveal, featuring McGregor coming out on stage at D23 to “Duel of Fates” because ohbabyyes, included Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealing that “the scripts are ready,” and that the series will shoot next year.

McGregor originally played the iconic Jedi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, often cited as one of the best/most memeable performances of those movies.
It’s been a long road for McGregor’s return to Star Wars since Disney bought the franchise. Following Rogue One, there have dozen of rumors and reports that an McGregor-lead Obi-Wan spinoff film was in the works, and two years ago, it looked like the spinoff film was actually happening.
It’s very unlikely we’ll see a spinoff film now with this Disney Plus series announcement, and it’s very likely the tepid box office performance for Solo last year put the breaks on future A Star Wars Story films (for now).
“It feels so nice to say,” said McGregor during the announcement at D23.
It’s so nice to hear. We can’t wait to see how our boy Obi spent his time between Episode III and IV.
