After an amazing Batman trilogy from Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale, Ben Affleck will try and put his own stamp on The Dark Knight!
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n the 2000’s era, we saw three Batman movies come out starring Christian Bale as the 5th actor to play as Batman. From Batman Begins to The Dark Knight Rises, the trilogy was spectacular! It’s one of the few things that DC did a great job with. One of the actors that Nolan got to choose from to be Batman was Ben Affleck, who portrayed him in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Now, Affleck is preparing to make his debut in his own movie, The Batman. In this movie, he will be squaring off with Deathstroke, who will be played by Joe Manganiello. We got our first look at Deathstroke in CW’s Arrow in Season 2 where he was played by Manu Bennett.
Manganiello talked about his role in the movie and discussing it with Affleck so far in a sitdown interview on Mark Madden Podcast via Comic Book Movie:
“When I met Ben we sat down and we talked about, you know, the role. We talked about the movie. His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to, you know, who Batman is. And I think it’s gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. But it’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think a lot of people are going to be really happy about. It’s going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman.”
There have been many variations of Batman over the years, from Adam West to Val Kilmer, everyone had their own version of Batman. Either way, Affleck will put his own stamp on The Dark Knight. Manganiello also talked about Affleck as a director:
“Ben’s a great director, man. I mean the last movie that man directed won best picture. He’s got an Oscar for writing. Like, this is all the components to go down as a… everything is lined up for a really really really great movie. Not only a superhero movie but just a great great movie.”
Affleck has had award-winning movies for what he’s directed in the past, such as Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and his Best-Picture award winner Argo. So we can be optimistic with what we can expect from The Batman. How he goes about creating the cast and writing the script for the movie will ultimately decide if this works out for him.
