[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]ccording to Variety, a source reports Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson (Room, 21 Jump Street) is in early talks for the coveted Captain Marvel role, in the upcoming standalone film of the same name. Word is Larson is currently the frontrunner who’s tipped to be their first choice.
Larson would portray Carol Danvers, a popular female comic book figure who gains superpowers after an encounter with an alien from the Kree race, which leads her to take up the moniker of Captain Marvel. Danvers’ powers include flight, enhanced strength, speed and durability, and the ability to shoot bursts of concussive energy from her hands.
The standalone movie surrounding Danvers is currently planned to hit the big screens in 2019, with writers Meg LaFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy) penning the screenplay.
