‘Zorro’ Reboot on the way, set in Post-Apocalyptic World

Zorro Reborn will reboot the 10 year dormant film franchise.

The legendary swordsmen Zorro will return to the big screen in Zorro Reborn, a reboot of the film franchise, made possible through Lantica Media and Sobini Films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lantica Media will produce and finance the film, and Sobini Films will assist with production. Principal photography is set to begin March of next year.

Unlike previous interpretations of the hero, which are set in the 1800’s, this new adaptation will take place in a near future, post-apocalyptic setting. The masked hero will still protect the innocent from corrupt crooks as he has in previous films, but now there’s a chance he will fight zombie bandits. Maybe.

Zorro reboot has been in development for a while at 20th Century Fox, the distributor of Reborn. The last Zorro film, released by Columbia Pictures, was The Legend of Zorro in 2005, which starred Antonio Banderas in the lead role. Will Banderas return of the reboot? Unlikely. No doubt a younger actor is being sought out for the role.

Lantica Media CEO, Antonio Gennari, had this to say about the upcoming reboot:

“Every generation has its own Zorro hero and we’re proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation.”

Hopefully Zorro Reborn does indeed succeed at introducing the legend to a new generation of moviegoers.
