The first human lead character has been cast for War of the Planet of the Apes.
Deadline Hollywood reports that Gabriel Chavarria is in talks to star in the anticipated film.
Chavarria is perhaps best known for his role in the Hulu-exclusive series East Los High, which has recently completed its third season on the online platform. He will also appear in the upcoming drama Low Riders, co starring Eva Longoria.
War of the Planet of the Apes will be the third film in the series reboot that began with Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Cloverfield helmer Matt Reeves, who directed the previous film, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will return for the new movie, along with motion-capture master Andy Serkis, who portrays the ape leader Caesar.
The Planet of the Apes reboot films have been huge critical and commercial successes, so let’s hope Reeves, Serkis, and Chavarria will bring it for, what may be, the last film in the trilogy.
War of the Planet of the Apes will hit theaters on July 14, 2017.
