The chance for Teen Titans to become something more than an animated series is lost.
[dropcap size=small]S[/dropcap]uperhero stories have been all the hype on not only the big screen but television as well in recent years. With The CW’s ever-expanding DC Universe and ABC’s two popular Marvel television shows gaining a solid fanbase other networks like CBS have been jumping at the opportunity to release their own superhero shows. TNT recently had the chance to air their very own live-action Teen Titans show called just Blackbirds, but TNT’s president Kevin Reilly chose to pass up on the opportunity.
The news about TNT’s decision to drop the show broke when TNT’s president Kevin Reilly spoke with The Hollywood Reporter during a Q&A session at the Television Critics Association winter press tour about the future of the show.
How much of the decision not to move forward with the DC Comics project Titans, also from Warner Bros., was based on the fact that you don’t own it?
“It wasn’t. Akiva [Goldsman] is a talented guy, [but] the script just wasn’t there. There is an unbelievable glut of superhero things in the market right now and if you have a really good one, clearly people are up for it. But I just don’t think that there’s a need for one that, for me, at least on paper didn’t seem to be screaming to get made.”
There you have it, a live-action version of Teen Titans is no longer a work in progress at TNT. The next biggest question everyone is asking is, will the show ever make it to television and if so, which television network will pick it up?
