It’s coming…just not anytime soon.
Even after the reveal of the remastered Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim-Special Edition, fans are still clamoring for the sixth entry in Bethesda’s flagship RPG series. Â The good news is TES6 is happening…but it’s going to take a while.
Here’s what we know:Â
During YouTube’s Live at E3 stream (via IGN) Skyrim and Fallout 4 director Todd Howard confirmed that Bethesda is “working on” The Elder Scrolls VI, and that “it’s a very long way off.”
Since then, Pete Hines, Bethesda’s vice-president of PR and marketing, tweeted to a fan wondering about the status of TES6.Â
we aren't working on TES6 at the moment

As you can see, the tweet seemingly contradicts what Howard said, leading to confusion as to whether Bethesda is actually developing the game at all.Â
Hines has since clarified his tweet to PC Gamer, explaining that “[Howard] said we were going to make it, he never said it was in development.”
To recap, it seems like Howard and Hines have the same message for fans: The Elder Scrolls VI is not yet in development. It’s coming; it’s just going to take a while.
It would have been nice if consistent wording was used to explain all of that, but it’s easy to understand why we’re not getting it soon.
Few games offer the scale and scope of what Bethesda delivers, and so to make massive living worlds ripe for exploration takes lots of time. For example, Fallout 4 was in full-scale development for at least four years.Â
Plus, Howard explained in that same stream that Bethesda has “two other large projects we’re also doing that are bigger than everything we’ve done,” and that we’ll probably hear about those before TES6.
Potentially two brand new games from Bethesda? Yeah, we can wait for Elder Scrolls 6.Â
In the meantime, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition comes to PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 28.Â
