Star Wars Anime Series ‘Visions’ Coming to Disney+, Looks Absolutely Incredible

Reimagine the galaxy with an original series featuring stories from seven visionary Japanese anime studios.

Nothing seems more true than this: “it would be better as an anime“. I will personally live and die by that statement. And after watching the English Dub Trailer for Star Wars: Visions, I know now more than ever that I am right. Take a look for yourself below:

The trailer above is in English but the series is shot in Japanese originally with English dubbed over which is incredibly rad for hardcore anime fans. And there seems to be a lot here for them to enjoy as Visions will encompass nine animated shorts in either language when it debuts on Disney+ next month.

Executive producer and Lucasfilm Vice President, Franchise Content & Strategy James Waugh had this to say about Visions:

“Lucasfilm is partnering with seven of the most talented anime studios in Japan to bring their signature style and unique vision of the Star Wars galaxy to this inspired new series.

Their stories showcase the full spectrum of bold storytelling found across Japanese animation;

each told with a freshness and voice that expands our understanding of what a Star Wars story can be, and celebrates a galaxy that has been such an inspiration to so many visionary storytellers.”

Holy shit! This is one of the raddest things I have ever seen!

As mentioned earlier, Visions will include nine total animated shorts from different studios and voice talents in both Japanese and English. Each animated short comes from a different studio with different artistic visions (though some studios did more than one short) from seven different legendary anime studios including my personal favorite, TRIGGER (Kill La Kill).

The Duel – Kamikaze Douga

Brian Tee (Ronin), Lucy Liu (Bandit Leader), Jaden Waldman (Village Chief)

Tatooine Rhapsody – Studio Colorido (Twin Engine)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Jay), Bobby Moynihan (Geezer), Temuera Morrison (Boba Fett), Shelby Young (K-344), Marc Thompson (Lan)

The Twins – TRIGGER

Neil Patrick Harris (Karre), Alison Brie (Am), Jonathan Lipow (B-20N)

The Village Bride – Kinema Citrus

Karen Fukuhara (F), Nichole Sakura (Haru), Christopher Sean (Asu), Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Valco), Andrew Kishino (Izuma), Stephanie Sheh (Saku)

The Ninth Jedi – Production I.G.

Kimiko Glenn (Kara), Andrew Kishino (Juro), Simu Liu (Zhima), Masi Oka (Ethan), Greg Chun (Roden), Neil Kaplan (Narrator), Michael Sinterniklaas (Hen Jin)

T0-B1 – Science Saru

Jaden Waldman (T0-B1), Kyle Chandler (Mitaka)

The Elder – TRIGGER

David Harbour (Tajin), Jordan Fisher (Dan), James Hong (The Elder)

Lop & Ochō – Geno Studio (Twin Engine)

Anna Cathcart (Lop), Hiromi Dames (Ocho), Paul Nakauchi(Yasaburo), Kyle McCarley (Imperial Officer)

Akakiri – Science Saru

Henry Golding (Tsubaki), Jamie Chung (Misa), George Takei (Senshuu), Keone Young (Kamahachi), Lorraine Toussaint (Masago)

I can’t express how excited I am. The trailer gave me chills and I watched it four times. Got chills every single time. The animation looks incredible, the music is bumpin’, the voice acting is what I hoped it would be, and… guys, I think I am going to have a heart attack.

Star Wars Visions comes exclusively to Disney+ on September 22nd.
