Here’s another popular video game classic set to hit the silver screen!
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hile video games are still struggling to find a film adaptation that will finally give them the credit they deserve, Sega has announced a plan to release a number of films adapted from several of their titles. In addiction to the CGI/live action Sonic the Hedgehog film, Sega has now officially announced a film adaptation for their 80’s arcade classic: Shinobi.
The developers have teamed up with Bridge of Spies producer Marc Platt and his company Platt Productions. This partnership plans to release not just movies but “digital projects” based on Sega titles. We’re not quite sure what that means at the moment, but TV shows have been rumored.
The Shinobi games follow the story of Joe Musashi, a ninja who is constantly having to rescue friends and family from his arch nemesis Zeed. The series attempted a comeback in 2002 with a reboot of the series set to release on the Dreamcast, but after the hardware’s discontinuation it was moved to the PlayStation 2. The reboot received decent reviews but failed to make a splash big enough to bring Shinobi back into the mainstream.
Shinobi for the Sega Mega Drive. Good times with shurikens!
The critics we’re pretty harsh on Ratchet and Clank (despite audience reviews being average) but we can still pin our hopes on Warcraft set to release this June and Assassin’s Creed this December to change the way the film industry looks at video games.
