[dropcap size=small]G[/dropcap]ame of Thrones star Sean Bean has joined the cast for Ridley Scott’s upcoming space survival drama, The Martian. The film, starring Matt Damon, centers on the story of an astronaut who becomes stranded on a Martian colony and must then fight for survival as NASA attempts to organize a daring rescue mission.
Sean Bean is the latest high-profile star to join the film’s already impressive line-up that includes notable performers such as Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty), Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom), Kate Mara (House of Cards), Michael Pena (Fury), and Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids).
Twentieth Century Fox’s The Martian is based on the book by Andy Weir. Drew Goddard adapted the script, and Ridley Scott is producing along with Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood.
Bean, who currently stars on the television crime drama Legends, will reportedly play a NASA flight director. That role sounds safe enough that his character may actually survive the film, but probably not….
The Martian is scheduled to hit theaters November 25, 2015
