Deakins has been hired to shoot the Blade Runner sequel that will be helmed by Villeneuve and will star Harrison Ford.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]lcon Entertainment‘s co-founder’s and co-CEO’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson have announced that Roger Deakins and Denis Villeneuve will team up and shoot the untitled sequel to Blade Runner. The two have worked before when Deakins helped out on Villeneuve’s Prisoners, starting Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, and most recently on Sicario, staring Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro.

The Film is scheduled to start filming the summer of 2016. Hampton Fancher, who was one of the original co-writer, and Michael Green have punched-out a screenplay for the sequel based on ideas by Fancher and Ridley Scott. The story takes place several decades after the original film and will have Harrison Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard. It is also reported that Ryan Gosling will star in the sequel as well.
The original Blade Runner movie was an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” and was directed by Ridley Scott. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, Best Visual Effects, and Best Art Direction, and in 1993 the film was also selected to be preserved in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.
Blade Runner is among one of the greatest sci-fi movies of all times and is loved by millions. With Deakins and Villeneuve now on board, we can only expect good things.
The untitled Blade Runner sequel directed by Denis Villeneuve and starring Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling will start filming the summer of 2016, no set date for a release as of yet.
