Earlier this week, Sony announced during their PlayStation ‘State of Play’ event a handful of new details of known and new titles. And while we felt a little underwhelmed by what was announced, there are some fun little nuggets that were shown that have us looking forward to a few things, at least. Of course, Sony likes to stroke themselves in these events by advertising these titles on PlayStation, but almost all of them will be coming to other platforms as well at launch.

Here is what was announced and a quick summary and trailer for each along with the full State of Play stream down below:

  • Diofield Chronicle

Welcome to the world of DioField, a new strategy RPG that will take you on a journey of honour and political intrigue. In this fresh and gritty story, you will discover a unique blend of fantasy, medieval and modern-day influences, and an innovative combat system: Real-Time Tactical Battle. Surrounded by richly detailed environments in diorama-style visuals, you must think quickly and act strategically to lead your team to victory.

  • Exoprimal

This sort of looks like Anthem meets Jurassic Park. Sony and Capcom showed off the reveal trailer and it looks almost as if players take control of exo-suits while facing massive hordes of various dinosaurs that come pouring out of black holes throughout the city. We are certainly curious about this one. This is either going to be a hell of a lot of fun or a major flop. The trailer doesn’t give us enough to lean more on either side of that fence, but it could be a hit when it is released next year in 2023.

We already knew about Forespoken but it does look pretty dope. The description of the game sounds promising and so does the State of Play trailer. Forspoken follows the journey of Frey, a young New Yorker transported to the beautiful and cruel land of Athia. In search of a way home, Frey must use her newfound magical abilities to traverse sprawling landscapes and battle monstrous creatures. Explore the sprawling realms of Athia, a striking land of remarkable vistas and otherworldly creatures brought to life through stunning graphics and cutting-edge technology. Take on twisted monsters in magical combat with a wide range of powerful abilities catering to a variety of playstyles – from fast-paced and exhilarating to strategic and methodical. Scale walls, vault across canyons, leap from dizzying heights, and dash through vast landscapes. Frey’s unique abilities allow her to fluidly traverse the open world with ease.

  • Ghostwire: Tokyo

The more I learn about this game, the less interested I am. Maybe it ends up a total knockout but Tango Gameworks has a lousy track record with me. Both The Evil Within and The Evil Within 2 were a lousy experience from a story and gameplay perspective so I have little faith that this game will be any better. The few trailers for this game looked cool but when I found out it was Tango Gameworks, I immediately lost interest.

GigaBash is a 4 player Arena Brawler featuring Giant Monsters, Kaijus & Heroes developed by Passion Republic Games. Unleash mayhem in fully destructible maps and battle among your friends as you rise as the true Apex among Titans.GigaBash is coming to PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5 in early 2022. Meh.

Now this is what I am talking about. With Shredder’s Revenge coming sometime later this year (presumably), TMNT fans will be up to their eyeballs in Turtles in a half shell as the Cowabunga Collection contains a whopping 13 games spanning from Arcade, to NES, SNES, Genesis, and GameBoy titles. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection includes:

  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (Arcade)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (NES)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (Super Nintendo)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Super Nintendo)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist (Sega Genesis)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters (Sega Genesis)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fall of The Foot Clan (Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Back From The Sewers (Game Boy)
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue (Game Boy)

This radical collection will come to all major consoles and PC later this year.

_________

  • Trek to Yomi

Coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation4 in Spring 2022! As a vow to his dying Master, the young swordsman Hiroki is sworn to protect his town and the people he loves against all threats. Faced with tragedy and bound to duty, the lone samurai must voyage beyond life and death to confront himself and decide his path forward.

_________

  • Valkyrie Elysium

VALKYRIE ELYSIUM, coming to PlayStation®5/PlayStation®4 in 2022. The world is on the brink of destruction as a new Valkyrie’s story begins. VALKYRIE ELYSIUM is an action RPG with an epic story, beautiful environments, and new, fast-paced combat that incorporates the VALKYRIE series’ classic special attack and combo systems. This will either be really cool, or another boring anime hack and slash. I am not familiar with the Valkyrie series myself so I will reserve judgement until it comes out but Square-Enix has been dropping the ball significantly lately so there’s also that to consider.
