[dropcap size=small]F[/dropcap]inally, after three years of waiting and multiple obstacles the sequel to Pacific Rim has started production. Despite Guillermo del Toro stepping down as director and taking on the role of producer, the sequel seems to be in good hands. Instead, the director of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil, Steven S. DeKnight, will now be directing the film which finally has a title.

With a title of Pacific Rim: Maelstrom we can only imagine that the sequel will be just as visually stunning and thrilling as the first film. Although we have no plot details to share, we do know that Star Wars: The Force Awakens star John Boyega will be stepping into the role of Stacker Pentecost’s (Idris Elba) son. Also, Cailee Spaeny will have the role as the new female lead in the sequel and actors Scott Eastwood, Adria Arjona, Mackenyu Maeda, Jing Tian, and Levi Meaden have joined the cast as well.
Pacific Rim: Maelstrom hits theaters February 23rd, 2018.
