Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland is creating a new live-action Star Wars series for Disney+ set during a renaissance era of the Jedi. Previous reports said the series will have a strong female-led cast with martial arts elements as well.
Star Wars made the official announcement below.
Leslye Headland brings a new @StarWars series to @DisneyPlus with The Acolyte. “The Acolyte” is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.

Headland herself had this to say about the project:
“I would say it’s in a pocket of the universe and a pocket of the timeline that we don’t know much about. I kind of see, if Star Wars is a religion. I like to think of my show as a tent revival. You can come over if you want to. We’re going to be talking about some cool stuff. There’s going to be some things we haven’t discussed in the canon yet. There are going to be some characters you don’t know about.”
