D23 was held this past weekend with all sorts of Disney reveals and announcements flooding the convention halls. While Friday was all about your typical Disney stuff, Saturday was all about Marvel. From revealing the roster of the upcoming Thunderbolts film, to a Secret Invasion trailer, and even the news that Tim Blake Nelson would be reprising his role from The Incredible Hulk (2008) in the upcoming Captain America: New World Order, there was a lot to get fans talking. But one such announcement really caught us by surprise with Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: Werewolf By Night.

Take a look at the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ original coming next month:

Werewolf by Night is being advertised as a “TV Special” but understand that it is neither a movie nor an episodic series. Instead, it will be a single television special with a runtime of 60 minutes and will be included in Phase Four of the MCU. WBN will also be shown completely in black and white throughout the duration of the special (as far as we know).

Premise

A secret group of monster hunters gather at Bloodstone Castle following the death of their leader and engage in a mysterious and deadly competition for a powerful relic, which will bring them face to face with a dangerous monster.

Gael Garcia Bernal stars as the titular character Jack Russel/Werewolf by Night with Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone, a monster hunter, and Harriet Sansom Harris as Verusa, a leader of monster hunters.

In addition to those three leading the cast, members of the Time Variance Authority, or TVA, as seen in the Loki series, will also be making an appearance. Not only that, eagle-eyed viewers would have caught a momentary glimpse of Man-Thing in the trailer as well.

The premise of the show is definitely one that sparks intrigue, especially considering it seems to want to embrace a bit more horror and gore with that campy grindhouse tone. And the inclusion of the TVA makes us wonder just when the special takes place in Marvel’s timeline but all these questions and more will be answered when it arrives on Disney+ next month.

Werewolf by Night comes exclusively to Disney+ on October 7th.
