*Insert Darth Vader’s “NOOOOOO!!!”*
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]t appears that George Miller’s schedule is the one to blame for this tragic news. The director, who is supposedly being bombarded with requests to direct several upcoming movies in Hollywood due to the success of his Mad Max: Fury Road film, sat down with Yahoo! Movies to talk about why he turned down the Warner Bros. project and several rumors related to it.
“There was talk of it,” he announced, “But I’ve got so many things on my dance card, I don’t have the time to do everything.”
Akira is widely regarded to be one of the greatest anime films of all time and the project to bring the anime to the big screen as a live action film already has many big names attached to it, such as Leonardo DiCaprio working to produce the film and the rumor of Christopher Nolan directing the film. Speaking of rumors, there were rumors that George Miller used Akira as a motivation for Mad Max: Fury Road.
“I don’t know where that came from,” he said. “I’m a huge fan of anime and the precision of that and to some degree Manga, even though I don’t read Japanese, but just the aesthetic of it. So Akira might have been one of the many movies but it certainly wasn’t one that directly influenced Mad Max.”
