Lonely Island’s untitled film set to be released in Summer of 2016.
When you hear the name The Lonely Island, almost everyone thinks of the notorious music group responsible for hit singles, I’m On a Boat, My D*** in a Box, and many other laugh out loud songs. Made up of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone, The Lonely Island group has been made famous through multiple performances of their songs and short films on stages like MTV and Saturday Live. However, the group has set their sites on something bigger: a movie.
The trio is currently working on a feature length film together that is slated for release in Summer 2016. Universal Pictures has stated that the movie will be produced by Judd Apatow as a comedy filled with musical performances by the Lonely Island crew. Samberg, Schaffer, and Taccone are said to be collaborating on writing and producing the movie as well. Samberg is said to be starring in the movie as well, but no word of the whole group being in the movie has been revealed. As for the title of the movie, it has previously been referred to as Connor4Real, but now is just being called the Top Secret Untitled Lonely Island Movie by Universal.
It has been reported that the movie will tell the story of a washed up rapper played by Andy Samberg who decides to get back together with his old boy band. Along with the members of The Lonely Island, another Saturday Night Live superstar, Tim Meadows, is said to play a key role as Andy Samberg’s manager in the movie as well. While this movie is not historically accurate to The Lonely Island roots, nor is it attempting to portray the group’s journey, the movie will definitely take a subtle jab at different musical documentaries that have been released in the last few years. The group is surely to write their own original songs for the movie and it can be expected that they will leave the crowd laughing hysterically. The films’s current expected release date is June 3rd, 2016.
