GoT finally brought home the Emmy for Best Drama, and Viola Davis makes history.

Last night was the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which recognizes excellence in television programs.

Without a doubt, the big winners from the ceremony were Game of Thrones and Veep, each having won numerous awards.

The fifth season of Game of Thrones received the prestigious honor of Outstanding Drama Series, beating out fellow nominees House of Cards, Better Call Saul, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, Homeland, and Orange is the New Black.

The HBO series also received the Emmy for writing and directing in a drama series, both awards specifically for the season finale, “Mother’s Mercy.” (SHAME!)

As for acting awards, nominees Lena Headey (Cersei) and Emilia Clarke (Daenerys) did not win in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category, but Peter Dinklage won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

This was the Dink’s second win for his role as Tyrion, and he honestly looked quite surprise when it was announced he won.

The other big winner last night was the HBO political satire Veep, which won for Outstanding Comedy Series, best writing, Outstanding Supporitng Actor in a Comedy Series (Tony Hale, aka Buster Bluth!), and Outstanding Lead Actress for Julia-Louis Dreyfus.

While big props to Dreyfus for her win, it was unfortunate that Amy Poehler did not win for her role as Leslie Knope in Parks and Recreation, of which she has been nominated many times, but has never won.

Poehler really didn’t seem to care though.

Another notable winner includes Jon Hamm, who (finally) won Outstanding Lead Actor for Mad Men, after being nominated eight times for his role as Don Draper. He received a standing ovation for his well-deserved award, and for making an epic entrance onto the stage.

Also, Viola Davis made history when she became the first African American woman to win the Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series for her role in How to Get Away With Murder.

She gave a phenomenal and rousing speech I implore you to check out here.

The Emmy ceremony itself was a success, thanks to host Andy Samberg. He brought the right amount of class, and goofy Lonely Island charm.

Plus, the opening sketch was hilarious.

That officially puts an end to a great year of television. Will this year bring great shows and awesome performances too? We can only hope so.
