Live-Action Star Wars Series Titled ‘The Mandalorian,’ First Image Revealed

I hope this guy’s name is Banjo-Kazooie Fett.

Disney is busy preparing content for its upcoming streaming service, and that includes a live-action Star Wars series that we finally have more details on.

The series is titled The Mandalorian and takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. As the title indicates (and the official synopsis below), the series will focus on a Mandalorian bounty hunter, the same race Jango and Boba Fett.

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Although Mandalorians and their home planet Mandalore are not a part of the main films, both are explored in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. For example, one of the main characters from Rebels, Sabine Wren, is a Mandalorian warrior.

The Mandalorian is being written and produced by Iron Man director Jon Favreau, and will have episodes directed by an impressive list of talent, including:

  • Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode.
  • Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok)
  • Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones)
  • Rick Famuyiwa (Dope)
  • Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates, not Jessica Chastian)

With talented directors attached and an intriguing concept, we’re on board for The Mandalorian. We’re still holding out hope that this doesn’t mean that rumored Boba Fett spinoff film is no longer in development though.

We’ll let you know when more details on The Mandalorian and Disney’s streaming service drop.
