That’s one brainy villain.
[dropcap size=small]W[/dropcap]hen Michael Bay isn’t busy filming big explosions in glossy multi-million-dollar-robot-pummeling action movies, he’s producing Ninja Turtles of the Teenage Mutant variety.
Producing in the film sense of course – if he could actually make his own Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles in any other way, I think we should all be concerned.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Bay seemed to inadvertently confirm the next big villain in the upcoming Ninja Turtles sequel, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
Bay was promoting the latest film he’s directing – 13 Hours: The Secret of Soldiers of Benghazi, which based on the true story by Mitchell Zuckoff (due for release January 15th, 2016) – when it was revealed that ex-warlord Krang is featured in the project.
Visual-effects supervisor Pablo Helman caught up with Bay via video during the interview, and showed off the latest character animations for Krang.
Pablo Helman, a visual-effects supervisor who worked on the Star Wars prequels, appears onscreen and shows Bay the latest version of Krang, a new-to-the-movies villain who is, essentially, a disembodied brain inside a giant robot. “So we’ve eliminated the tentacles,” Helman explains. “Is it too monster-ish?”
“He could have some tentacles,” says Bay. “I just don’t want them coming out of the side. He looks like a stupid octopus.”
So there you have it. Alongside the reveal that Bebop and Rocksteady will be in the sequel in the recent trailer, it seems we’ll be seeing Krang in his first movie feature (where he could possibly front the pair).
A ‘disembodied brain inside a giant robot’ is a pretty accurate description of Krang. An ex-warlord in Dimension X, Krang was punished and banished to Earth, where his brain was stripped from his body, leaving him as a complete entity in brain form.
It’ll be interesting to see just how this disembodied brain will be animated in the sequel, and if he’ll still look like a ‘stupid octopus.’
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows is due to be released 3 June, 2016.
