Yes, you read that right and if you’re anywhere near as big a fan as I am of the Halo games, your heart just sank a little.
343 Industries confirmed that the studio won’t be discussing the next instalment in the Halo series for a while yet.
Jeff Easterling, writer for 343 Industries, clarified the absence of a Halo 6 announcement at the Microsoft’s E3 conference, stating
“While there’s little to nothing that can be said on that front, it’s been made clear that we won’t be talking about Halo’s next major title for quite some time.”
And thus in one foul swoop, dashing our dreams of any kind of Halo 6 reveal in the near future.
*cries in Sangheili*
We really had no right to get our hopes up as prior to E3 2017, 343 Industries did warn us that there would be no showing of Halo 6 at this year’s conference but they did tease saying there would be a “little something” for us all. This “little something” turned out to be an expansion pack to Halo Wars 2. Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare.
With the studio working on Halo 6 for well over a year now, we at least know that the new game will be more focused on Master Chief rather than bringing any new characters to the story.
We can possibly speculate that with the big reveal of the Xbox One X, the Halo franchise would be wanting to ensure that their devs have plenty of time to get to grips with the new console and the programming for it. With such a big title as Halo 6, ironing out any kinks with new console would be absolutely paramount.
Halo Wars 2: Awakening the Nightmare, will be available in November.
