[dropcap size=small]G[/dropcap]reen Arrow actor Stephen Amell and his cousin, Robbie Amell, have been campaigning for donations like a couple of politicians to help fund the indie movie Code 8. Well, their efforts more than paid off after they reached a staggering $1,722,409 total according to crowdfunding site Indiegogo, making it the highest crowd-funded film of 2016.
The original goal of the Code 8 campaign was $200,000 so they easily surpassed that goal. Some of the donation packages offered to donors were a DVD copy of Code 8 for a $35 donation, a ticket for the premiere of the film for $1,250, and two executive producer credits for the donors who paid $50,000 to fund the movie.

Robbie Amell is set to star in the film, so it would make sense that he would be campaigning for the funding and having another actor in the family, Stephen Amell, didn’t hurt either. Stephen Amell has also been confirmed to have part in the film but there is no news about what his role would be.
Code 8 was released as a short film earlier this year to help get support for their crowd funding campaign. The short film is below.

Code 8 is described as a sci-fi movie in a world where superhumans or “supers” are forced into poverty and have to resort to lives of crime. In this world a young man (Robbie Amell) struggling with his powers will have a confrontation with the militarized police and one of their officers (Sung Kang).

Jeff Chan will direct the film while Aaron Abrams, Chad Donella (Scandal), and Alfred Rubin Thompson will co-star in the film.
Code 8 will start shooting in Los Angeles early next year. No release date has been set at this time.
