Drawing inspiration from the community, 343 Bungie promises to make changes to future Halo games.
[dropcap size=small]I[/dropcap]n an industry where the community, the players, and the fans have the final say on what is successful and what is not the gaming industry has to not only constantly adapt to what pleases fans but also concede on when they’ve made a mistake. 343 Industries head Bonnie Ross did exactly this at today’s DICE 2017 where she discussed the lessons the company has learned over the years since taking over the Halo franchise and the changes they plan on making to ensure that fans are satisfied.
In her presentation, which was titled “Stewards of a Sci-Fi Universe”, Bonnie Ross admitted that the lack of split screen in Halo 5: Guardians was “incredibly painful for the community” and for those employed at 343 Industries. Granted, this seems a little bit contradictory considering the studio claimed they removed the option of split screen play due to “massive scale environments, improved AI behavior, increased visual and gameplay fidelity” and that it was a “tough decision” for the company to make.
As such, Bonnie Ross promised that “for any FPS going out forward, we will always have split-screen.” She also admitted that “while we love our transmedia, sometimes I do think we tell a little bit too much story in our games.” Halo 5: Guardians is widely seen as having one of the worst campaign stories in the Halo franchise and so it is nice to see that 343 Industries is willing to use criticism from fans as a stepping stone towards creating an even better game than before.
