Hot off the heels of a pretty good Aladdin trailer, Disney has finally released the first full trailer to the upcoming remake of The Lion King.
Besides the opening narration (from Scar most likely), the trailer delivers on what one would expect: nostalgia. This teaser functions much more as a highlight reel of memorable scenes from the 1994 original film, just now recreated in astounding photo-realistic CGI. Even in 2019, it’s hard to believe a shot like the one below was animated using a computer.
The stunning visuals aside, this trailer seemingly points to what many have suspected, specifically that the remake will be a shot-for-shot remake of the original film. I wouldn’t rush to that conclusion just yet, as director Jon Favreau has proved he can remake a classic Disney film while still expanding and iterating on the original story, as seen in The Jungle Book.
All that being said, I really hope this film is visually engaging beyond its photo-realism. I agree with this tweet too much right now.
At last! Modern technology has finally given us what we’ve all been dreaming of: A Lion King where they’re just regular animals who walk around like normal. https://t.co/IV1HZr7wP7
