The new Flash is ahead in the race to play a key role in the Harry Potter spin-off.

[dropcap size=small]L[/dropcap]ast year, Ezra Miller was cast as the Flash for the DC cinematic universe. Now it seems one major Warner Bros. franchise wasn’t enough for Miller, who has his eyes on a part in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The Perks of Being a Wallflower star is reportedly in talks to play Kredan, a wizard who will stumble across Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander as he passes through New York City on his own search for magical creatures.
Although Warner Bros. had no comment on the casting, Variety reports that Miller has always been favorite for the sidekick role, and that a deal is all but done. This means that three of the four lead roles will have been cast, now that Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) has been confirmed as the female lead, Tina. The studio is still auditioning for a character called Jacob, who will be a rival of Scamander’s, and it seems that Josh Gad (Frozen) and Michael Cera (Juno) have emerged as the two leading contenders.
The Harry Potter crew returns for the first in the spin-off trilogy. David Yates will direct, with David Heyman on board as producer, while J.K. Rowling makes her screenwriting debut for what she describes as ‘an extension of the wizarding world’, rather than a prequel or sequel. The film will be set in New York (a world away from Scotland’s Hogwarts castle) roughly 70 years before Harry Potter’s story, and will follow the adventures of ‘magiczoologist’ Scamander, as he fills in his future Hogwarts textbook: ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’.
The film opens on November 18th 2016.
