You’re an old man, Harry.Â
The eighth story in the Harry Potter series may be making its way to the big screen, and with it, the boy who lived himself, Daniel Radcliffe.Â
A Hollywood source close to NY Daily News revealed that Warner Bros. wants to adapt the play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, into a film as early as 2020, with Radcliffe reprising his iconic role.Â
“Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled, and of course in their minds only one man should be Harry.” explains the Hollywood source.
For those out of the loop, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a two-part stage play currently running in England (shout out to Jack and Heather), with a bestselling script publication as well. The story is set nineteen years after the defeat of Voldemort, and focuses on the relationship between Harry and his son Albus, as well as many other spoilerific things.Â
Jaime Parker as the titular character in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child theater production.
The report also suggests that Warner Bros. is looking to turn the play into a trilogy of films focusing on Harry and Albus, and are hoping to secure Radcliffe for the role as soon as possible.Â
Radcliffe has previously expressed a desire to distance himself from his role as Harry. The actor has also been keeping himself very busy lately, with stage productions like How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and playing a farting corpse in Swiss Army Man.Â
“[Radcliffe] has made it clear that his mind is certainly not focused on returning to the role anytime soon — and that could be until he hits 40,” explains the source. “He doesn’t need to go back for money or to reboot his career, so he will need some persuading.”
We have no official confirmation that Warner Bros. is actively developing a Cursed Child trilogy, even though it’s very likely, but we definitely believe Radcliffe isn’t all that interested. The guy spent most of his life with fake glasses and a scar, and we’re sure we wants to make a name for himself outside of the Potter brand.
Plus, we have another trilogy of films set in the Wizarding World to get through first.Â
