Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel have signed on to write the script for an Edge of Tomorrow sequel.
[dropcap size=small]A[/dropcap]t this point we should all just expect sequels for films that do well at the box office here and internationally. Edge of Tomorrow, the sci-fi thriller starring Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise, made over $100 million at the box office and close to $300 million internationally so with that amount of success it is no surprise that a sequel was wanted.
Edge of Tomorrow is a story about a mediocre military officer who has become accustomed to his desk job life. One day Cage (Tom Cruise) receives orders to report to the front line and he is suddenly thrust into the daily and rigid life of a foot soldier preparing to lead a final assault against an extraterrestrial enemy that has the power to reset the day and knowledge of the future. On the day of the assault Cage slays one of the extraterrestrials and discovers that he has the same ability as the enemy. Using this knowledge Cage teams up with Rita (Emily Blunt) and using Cage’s newfound power they set out to destroy the extraterrestrial and save humanity from extinction.
What makes the news that an Edge of Tomorrow sequel is in the works is how the sci-fi thriller ended. All loose ends were tied up at the end of Edge of Tomorrow and it is going to be an impressive task for the writers Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel to create a script that ties in the first film while also creating a compelling story for the second film. Luckily, both Anna Waterhouse and Joe Shrapnel have a history of writing strong and impressive scripts for movies so we can only hope that a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow is just as good, if not better than the first.
