Following the deadly events at home, the Abbott family (Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe) must now face the terrors of the outside world as they continue their fight for survival in silence. Forced to venture into the unknown, they quickly realize that the creatures that hunt by sound are not the only threats that lurk beyond the sand path.
You may recall in the first film, a portion of the story took place in an underground bunker/basement where newspaper clippings and communications equipment were scattered about. Among those clippings and doodles on the walls were details and clues that outlined some key bits of information that describe when and where the invasions first began.
While these newspaper clippings seemed essential in informing audiences more of what lead to the current state of the world after the invasion, I wondered to myself just who in their right mind would be publishing these articles and distributing them in the middle of a hostile alien takeover. Maybe the military was at first successful in fighting back and keeping the alien race at bay? Who knows? But what we certainly don’t know, is what it looked like for the Abbot family when they first encountered the aliens.
Truth be told, it might kind of difficult to spend a lot of plot time in the past showing what life was like leading into the invasion, considering all the children aged considerably, though it isn’t impossible with modern film tech. That said, we do at least know that the trailer is showing us that the beginning will be shown off in some way, and I for one can’t wait to go back into this universe and see what writer/director/actor John Krasinski has in store for us this time around.
With a screenplay from John Krasinski, A Quiet Place Part II stars, Emily Blunt, Millicent Simmonds, Noah Jupe, Cillian Murphy, and Djimon Hounsou. The film is directed by John Krasinski.
