An old king is back on the throne.
[dropcap size=small]O[/dropcap]ne of arcade gaming’s most coveted records was broken on May 5 with a beautiful perfect score. That’s right, someone got a perfect score on Donkey Kong.
Wes Copeland recorded a perfect score of 1,218,000 on May 5 to take the all-time score record from the now former record holder Robbie Lakeman, beating his score by 28,200. This is just latest chapter in the Lakeman-Copeland rivalry that has seen the two go back and forth, topping each others score to hold the all-time record. Copeland just landed the knockout blow in spectacular fashion, with his latest achievement, to win the personal rivalry. Lakeman had this to say if he would be able to tie the score. “I’m not lucky enough. Good enough but not lucky enough.”
On his three-hour and twenty-minute long journey to take back his throne, Copeland did not lose one life. He needed just one Mario to accomplish his goal while cashing in his extra lives when the opportunity presented itself.
On FaceBook Copeland wrote, “This will be my last record score. I don’t believe I can put up a game any higher than this.” Copeland had previously stated that he would retire after reaching his personal goal of a score of 1.2 million. Well it’s safe to say that it is a mission accomplished.
Below is video of Copeland recording his perfect score.
